ANNOUNCEMENT - JULY 30, 2020

The following communication is to assist York Simcoe Baseball Association local associations as many regions are entering Stage 3 of Ontario's reopening plan.

1) As part of the June 19 decision from the YSBA Board of Directors, the YSBA cancelled all sanctioned games, Provincial Qualifiers and Affiliate Championships.  Please note that exhibition games are not included in this decision and are permitted as part of the province's Stage 3 guidelines, including the limit of 50 participants within a competitive "bubble".  An exhibition game could include intra-squad scrimmages, scrimmages against other teams within a local association, as well as exhibition games against other teams outside of a local association.

2) Any teams wishing to participate in exhibition games or train only should ensure they have completed all of the Baseball Ontario requirements for insurance coverage, including completion of all COVID-19 and Rowan's Law waivers.  The deadline to do so is August 1, 2020.

3) Any Local Association that has shut down for the season, but a Rep or Select team(s) that wants to participate and play other teams following the bubble - 50 player max – either the local association or team must submit their roster to Baseball Ontario as a "Direct Entry".

4) Local associations that remain active and wish to play other teams should submit team rosters for approval by the YSBA Registrar.

IMPORTANT - COMMUNICATION REGARDING COVID19

York Simcoe Baseball Association (YSBA) recommends to all member Local Associations to communicate with their respective members reinforcing that every precaution should be taken with the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.

We recommend that all indoor and outdoor practices be cancelled effective immediately until at least April 5th. This is consistent with the actions undertaken by school boards, municipalities and other sports organizations.  We will reassess a recommended course of action as we get closer to that date.

The health and safety of all our stakeholders (players, coaches, parents, umpires, volunteers, staff) is extremely important.  Health experts indicate that COVID-19 is thought to spread mainly from person-to-person.

  • Between people who are in close contact with one another (within about 6 feet).
  • Through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes.

The following precautions are recommended:

  • wash your hands frequently
  • avoid contact with people who are sick
  • avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth
  • cover your coughs and sneezes with a tissue or into your elbow (not your hands)
  • wash your hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after being in a public place or after blowing your nose, cough or sneezing.
  • if soap and water are not readily available, use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol
  • maintain social distancing (1-2 metres) between yourself and anyone who is coughing or sneezing
  • if you have a fever, cough and difficulty breathing, seek medical care early
  • stay at home and avoid others, except to get medical care, if you begin to feel unwell, even with mild symptoms such as a headache and slight runny nose
  • clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces daily
  • stay informed and follow advice given by your healthcare provider
  • avoid shaking hands
